Power dressing can lie in the palm of your hand it's quite literally
You snake it around your cocktail glass—glimmer and gold straps that set the evening off beautifully, take it with you on that swimsuit-meets-pina colada island reset holiday, throw shade to the red carpet in sleek suede, shell or satin and so much more. You're living your bag life and well, you’re not alone!
Evening bags are definitely the showstopper when it comes to stepping out—anywhere. They’re your avatar, second nature and your personality statement-nothing speaks more about someone than the bag they flaunt. Oversized, textured, fanny, barrel, retro bowling style, with gold chain straps or the more recent Phantom bag, this is already the IT accessory of 2025 and the future around it is going nowhere.
One Indian label that’s the definitive ‘tell’ in this realm is Namrata Dudaney’sAhikoza. It’s been grabbing that limelight seen on the A-list at weddings, Oscars and Grammy Awards red carpets, Hollywood movie premieres, at celebrity airport dashes and on vacations of the rich and famous.
Over a chat, Dudaney—who has a love for geometry—shares why her minaudières and clutches bag are slipping so seamlessly into the hands of A-listers and why she’s happy to see Indian design shine bright in the global spotlight.

INDIAN QUIET LUXURY IN LIMELIGHT
"I saw a gap in the market, and I wanted to design handbags that would not have to announce themselves with a loud logo. Rather, be recognised by design." All global brands have key features - a DNA. Think of Bottega Veneta that is known for its weave, or Judith Leiber famous for its crystal studded handbags. The thing that stands out for Ahikoza by Brahm handbags is the geometric patterns."

Lauren Sanchez's pre-wedding trousseau had an Indian connection

The star-studded, high-profile wedding turned out to be the affair of the year, with the bride walking the aisle in a stunning Dolce & Gabbana gown, which was an ode to the 1950s glamour. While the bride's trousseau was carefully followed by the fashion police, she made heads turn with her striking presence in every ensemble, proving her fashion prowess. But what stood out was her choice of accessory - a sleek black clutch from the Indian luxury label Ahikoza by Brham.

Helen Mirren Unapologetically Extra. Shining at Cannes Film Festival Premiere
Evoking classic mid-century British elegance and high-society flair, the gown was elevated by a striking aqua sash that cinched the waist and flowed into a dramatic bow and train at the back.
A theatrical Karen Millen fascinator added a regal touch, while opulent Margot McKinney jewels — featuring luminous aqua stones — echoed the sash's hue and brought rich contrast to the black gown.

COMING IN CLUTCH ROCK THIS LUXURY HANDBAG... Worn by Actual Celebs!!!
Ahikoza is the artisanal accessory brand clutched by sizzling starlets all over the world.
Founded by Namrata Karad and inspired by her travels, the bags' geometries take their form from the architectural installations and sculptures of her favorite contemporary artists such as Donald Judd and Anish Kapoor.
In her designs, Namrata keeps the use of treatment and hardware to a minimum, to keep the primary focus on the top-quality craftsmanship, and the premium raw materials of the bags.
Her obsession with exotic skins and unique, quality design began when she was gifted a python foldover clutch from Gucci at age sixteen, and she has collected bags ever since.
Today, Ahikoza has gained a strong following by a contingent of celebrities in both Bollywood and Hollywood, and while the brand has evolved its offering to bucket bags, duffle bags, foldovers, minaudière, bespoke orders and bridal styles, it's the candy-colored clutches of Ahikoza's signature 'Madison' that is seen in the hands of her chic clientele, paired with their designer gowns and elegant saris.
Get to know the Designer behind Festival De Cannes Front Row bags
Namrata Dudaney Karad is the owner and Creative Director of handbag label, Ahikoza. An artisanal accessories brand that prides itself on unique design and quality. We sat with her to chat about artisanal quality, craftsmanship and the design process that goes behind creating a unique bag. Her designs are a global red carpet favourite. Carried by the who's who, in both Hollywood & Bollywood industries, respectively. Recently, Namrata's signature pieces became a front row fixture at Festival De Cannes. Worn by Elizabeth Grace, Nadine Leopold, Valeriali Lipovetsky & Claire Holt. We wanted to know more about the mastermind behind Cannes Film Festival IT clutches.
Velvet: Namrata, tell us how your passion for handbags became an inspiration behind your brand, Ahikoza?
Namrata: I have had a passion for handbags since a very young age, and still continue to do so. Through different ages, my taste of course changes, in terms of nature of style. Having said that, it remains, and I think will continue to be my favorite accessory. I have an admiration for craftsmanship, and it was often what encouraged my purchase. At its core, Ahikoza is a luxury accessories label with a geometric design DNA. An aesthetic symmetry.
Velvet: What type of bag should every woman own because it goes beyond 'trends'?
Namrata: A bag is a woman's perfect plus one. While a collection can have different shapes, sizes, colors (dependent to one's taste) one key value addition is a muted, or black color, I believe it is a value addition to the wardrobe. It has mileage and can be worn across seasons.
Velvet: Who are 3 designers you look up to?
Namrata: Alaia, Ralph and Russo & Pieter Mulier
Velvet: What can a bag say about a woman's personality?
Namrata: It's an extension of her style language and thereby her personality. This can be reflected in cohorts of shape, size and color. For example classic colors in structured shapes can speak of elegance. A more relaxed shape in a bright color that of playfulness.
Velvet: What's your inspiration while designing, and who do you imagine the 'Ahikoza woman' to be?
Namrata: My love for handbags fueled the business. And my love for contemporary arts and geometry, fueled the brand. There is something very calming about geometry. In a world that's ever changing, it's constant. Geometry is never wrong. I draw major inspiration from artists such as Donald Judd, Aljoud Lootah, Lucio Fontana and Anish Kapoor. While the brand has evolved to different product categories, my prismatic/geometric designs remain a signature favourite. The Ahikoza woman is confident, explorative and true to herself.
Velvet: Tell us about your next projects
Namrata: With the pandemic being lifted, that gives the brand to go back in the event space, offering curated and experiential viewings. I look forward to offering.
Stream of Prowess "Redefining Power Couple: Namrata and Varun Karad" July 2022
1- Varun and Namrata, how do your different personalities complement each other?
Varun: My wife has a beautiful aesthetic sense, which I have recently started to enjoy and appreciate. Prior to being married, my busy lifestyle didn't allow me the time to enjoy very much outside of work. Namrata compliments my personality, to slow down and enjoy the small things. Doing up our place was a lovely process.
Namrata: Varun is very cerebral! I often times can be emotionally charged. Him, being calm by nature - most importantly makes me feel secure and supported.
2- Namrata, tell us more about Ahikoza and how did you start your entrepreneurial journey?
My Ahikoza journey was a pure call of Destiny. Curious by nature, I dabbled in a few things, prior to starting my design journey. Mainly building my marketing portfolio, and started strategy consulting as well. I remember sitting at my desk at the time, reflecting and asking myself some really difficult questions. I felt stuck, and needed a breath of fresh air. I've been a handbag collector since the age of 16. For me it was the whole process - fine leather, packaging, the experience of luxury. I thought to myself - why not. I remember the moment like it was yesterday. That spark of inspiration led to my first sketch (looked like a school kids drawing) and that led to the inception of my brand, Ahikoza. 1 fortnight later, I had my business plan. 6 years later, I consider myself blessed to do what I love. I never thought my label would carried by the likes of Nikki Reed, Nadine Leopold, Grace Elizabeth & Sonam Kapoor to name a few. It's humbling, these talents have access to every brand in the world. Life is serendipitous. I truly believe a vision supported by hard work and gumption will never fail you. No matter how many falls, lessons and seasons, you endure through the process.
3- Varun, you are pursuing your executive education from Stanford; with a business in renewable energy. How and when did you decide to get into climate change industry?
One never stops learning, and this mindset continues to fuel me til date. I was passionate about climate change; cognizant of the fact, that not only is it lucrative industry, but one with a ethical and social responsibility bone. I met the founder of GPS renewables, at an airport lounge due to a delayed flight. True story. This was in 2017. Fast forward, aligned vision ensued a business relationship. As their Chief Business Officer, I'm proud to say we've achieved several milestones. We've set up Asia's largest Waste to BioCNG plant, our company has been granted 5 patents and today we have more than 100 Bio gas plants, making us the largest player in South Asia. This is just the beginning.
4- Varun, how has your political lineage shaped you as a person?
Varun: It's a double edged sword. My father is one of the highest educated in the current council of ministers. He is the deputy finance minister of India, the fifth largest economy in the world. Having said that, he comes from very humble beginnings. I've witnessed his journey first handedly and it has been awe inspiring and exemplary. He set the core values for our family by example, truly walking the talk. I get my work ethic and drive from him; it's a trait I stand tall on. If you truly want to test a man's character - give him power. I've been fortunate to yield only the best fruits from my fathers character. It's what you do with power that counts. Having said that, it can be distracting at times. Like a house of glass, you must tread carefully. A political lineage requires a certain refined tact, which only on the go experience will teach you.
5- Have you both been to the UAE? If yes, how was your experience?
Varun: We both have been to UAE at different time periods, but never together. Albeit, both us love it. It's full of culinary richness, arts & warmth. Namrata having moved to India, and us being in a closer proximity - we look toward to visiting together. As our family grows, we often talk about buying our holiday home there.
6- Considering the fierce competition in Today's business world, how would you highlight your company's competitive advantages? What makes it stand out of the crowd?
Namrata: Its an extremely competitive space. For Ahikoza particularly, I accredit it's success to having a defined, and now, recognized brand DNA. Essentially my designs are an aesthetic symmetry. That, and strong CRM in place. We evolve with our consumers and their needs. I'm not here to be the next trend, I aim to be a value addition to one's wardrobe; and make each Ahikoza an experiential purchase. Luxury is an emotion, one I want to evoke everytime a woman carry's my handbag.
Varun: GPS is a pioneer in the Bio - Energy sector that has had a lot of Business firsts. Such that, bring one of the first commercially viable captive Bio Gas plants. The first distributed Bio Gas plant, & the first Bio Gas to EV charging station. And at present we're currently building the largest MSW to Bio CNG plant in the world. Our competitive advantage is our highly qualified and experienced management. Furthermore GPS has a strong culture, everyone is a team player. As I say success is a team sport.
Our investors, Tridos Capital Management and Neev Fund are highly supportive of our growth plans. Our strategic tie ups with the likes of Mitsuii & Co; enabling us to make an actual impact. A core value we hold at GPS.
7- Outline the schedule of one of your typical working day?
Namrata: Every day is different. Being an entrepreneur, you also have to assume many responsibilities. I til date, oversee every division. When one is busy, such as production - it allows me to allocate my time to other areas. Work is always. A new routine I enjoy though, is discussing each others work, our goals etc once a week with my husband. Conversations can get heated, but it's so special to able to share that.
Varun: If I'm at home, the first thing I do is walk our dog Kingston, so he can do his business and I can go about doing my own! Ha. On a serious note a typical working day in my life means a lot of calls from 9AM onwards.
Being a CBO my responsibilities entail finding new avenues for business growth, which requires a lot of travel. Typically I'm traveling 2/3 days a week. Since being married, I have a phone ban post dinner. That however rarely works out. I'm a great negotiator.
8- What best motivates you? How have your entrepreneurial motivations changed since you first started?
Namrata: Its one life. I aim to do big things in life, not only in space of fashion, but social work, motherhood, spirituality to name a few. Life is about progression and evolving. Entrepreneurship has changed me, in that it's me the confidence that with right mindset and action set - nothing is impossible.
9- Who is your greatest support when facing up hardships in business?
Namrata: However cliché, my biggest support is my husband, Varun. He is my biggest critic; and at the same time my biggest cheerleader. Coming from different industries, we posses different skill sets, that make more a for strong synergy. Entrepreneurship can be a very isolating journey. Nothing is guaranteed, and the yield of dedication only heightens with your business growth. Having a partner who understands entrepreneurship from a grass roots level, opens a beautiful for communication.
10- Do you believe there is a winning formula for becoming a successful entrepreneur? What is yours?
Namrata: Entrepreneurship is not what it looks like. It's a lifestyle, and requires a lot of patience along with not hard, but what I call smart work. There is however no formula. The closest to a formula I can think of is learn, re learn and learn again. Get the foundations of your business right, study every detail of the industry. Good mentors also go a long way. Most important take away for me - I truly believe once you get hubirous, you start losing. Keep a humble spirit. Don't develop an ego and get caught up in the game.
Varun: I'm privileged to meet accomplished Business Men on a regular basis. I've come to realize the common thread to they're success include - being early risers. They also possess immense grit and decisiveness. Most important they don't fear failure. After all nothing is to be feared, but understood really.
11- What next for Varun and Namrata?
Namrata: I feel this is the beginning of a beautiful journey we both are embarking both professionally and personally.
Varun: We usually take life on a day to day basis. A common value and goal though is to grow as a couple, and raise well valued children one day. We aspire to have balanced lives, amidst the heat of being young entrepreneurs.

Bagging the world - Femina India
There's no denying that Indian designers are increasingly getting noticed globally, with a talented few finally getting the chance to showcase on international platforms while others are making a cut at international competitions. With that being said, designer Namrata Dudaney, Founder of Ahikoza seems to stand out among the rest. In 2017, she became the first Indian designer to collaborate with a Victoria Secret model to create a one-of-a-kind handbag. Barbara Fialho co-designed their famous Rachel and Barbara Foldover, which is cutting-edge and serves a highly practical function.
Known for her fine craftsmanship, exquisite materials, architectural silhouettes, textural interplays and bright hues, her bags were made for those who enjoy chic with a side of glam. Her stunning pieces are regularly spotted all in the hands of Bollywood's elite like Malaika Arora, Kiara Advani, Sonam Kapoor, and international fashion fixtures such as Olivia Holt, Emily Osment, and Shannon Thornton among others. We've also noticed her creations have become a staple in the wardrobes of popular trendsetters in the world which makes Dudaney a name to be reckoned with. Her brand Ahikoza is synonymous with pieces that are perfectly placed at the intersection of art and design. Think minimal yet stunning handbags and clutches in striking designs and shapes.
Following her intuition seems to have paid off for the fashion graduate, who went to a fashion school in Melbourne in 2008, before unveiling her first set of innovative prototypes back in 2016. I had no plans of becoming a designer. I had been a handbag collector since I was 16, and still am. My passion then led to a business idea that has proven to be a successful one, she explains.
The spearhead may well be one of the few in her league who have been crafting aesthetic geometric handbags inspired by architectural installations and sculptures. As evident from her line of handbags, each creation is unique and designed to last for years to come. I want women to feel empowered, like they're carrying a piece of art, she says with a smile.
Take Malaika Arora's red Amit Aggarwal pre-draped sari to your cocktail party
From its striking colour to its flattering silhouette, Malaika Arora's crimson sari checks all the boxes for a unique pre-wedding look. We know where you can buy the exact same piece online
'The coming of a sari with the colour red defines power unlike anything else,' says Amit Aggarwal, referring to Malaika Arora's stunning pre-draped sari worn for a high-profile wedding in February 2020. This is not the first time the actor was spotted in a head-turning piece by the couturier. Aggarwal, best renowned for using non-traditional materials and constantly reinventing classic Indian silhouettes, has found favour with Arora on several occasions. There was the cobalt blue pre-stitched sari she opted for Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh's reception, and even a Patola concept drape for a party in 2017 among her other looks. But Arora's red number is one you need to check out if you're putting together your trousseau. Keep reading to check it out.
Malaika Arora's crimson pre-draped sari came with stunning details
In case you can't recollect, Malaika Arora wore the red pre-stitched sari from Amit Aggarwal's "Lumen" collection for actor Armaan Jain and stylist Anissa Malhotra's star-studded post-wedding party in Mumbai. The evening saw a number of A-listers from Bollywood including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday, Kiara Advani and more. While lehenga seemed to be a clear choice among most celebrities, Arora stood out in the designer's signature concept drape. "It's a modern pre-draped sari teamed with a structured blouse and intricately textured palla," reveals Aggarwal to describe her look.
According to him, the statement ensemble took over 175 man hours to complete. "The drape is crafted from satin and organza, and complemented with a sleeveless polymer moulded blouse. The highlight is the embroidered pallu made with pleated chiffon and enhanced with tape and glass beads in the form of a haleconia flower."
Malaika Arora wore gemstone jewels to complete her Amit Aggarwal look
Malaika Arora took full advantage of the plunging neckline of her blouse by going all-out with an ornate neckpiece and ring by jewellery designer Farah Khan. Her choice: a layered diamond necklace encrusted with rubies. Instead of picking a contrasting piece with sapphires or emeralds or playing it safe with all-diamond necklace, Arora gave an interesting styling hack by going tone-on-tone with her accessory game too. She even went ahead and picked a pair of red heels and clutch to round it off. Her makeup, however, balanced the otherwise crimson look with neutral tones of taupe on the eyelids and lip. Arora went with a sleek blowdry to complete it.
"A pre-draped creation, like Malaika's, blends in the traditional yet contemporary beauty of a sari and comfort of a gown, making it versatile pick for any special occasion," adds Amit Aggarwal. Brides on the hunt of a unique option for their sangeet or cocktail party must surely consider it. Want to invest in the exact same sari as hers? Check out our edit of outfit and accessories to recreate Arora's look for your big day.

Get Your Greens - Sustainable and stylish vegan leather bags to buy now and keep forever.
Cruelty-free, conscious and cool, a vegan bag is the easiest way to look good while doing good for the planet. Vegan leather is a material that mimics leather, but is created from artificial or plant products instead of animal skins, explains Namrata Dudaney, founder and creative director of celebrity-favourite accessory label Ahikoza. It doesn't leave a bio footprint, making it perfect for those who embrace sustainability.
MATERIAL GIRLS
Vegan leather opioid, recycled plastic and pineapple/cactus leather are apt as alternative materials that imitate leather. At Ahikoza, we are currently working with mushroom leather, cork and faux velvet to craft clutches and totes that are visually-appealing and sustainable down to its lining, adds Namrata.
BRIDAL BRIGADE
As far as wedding wardrobes go, vegan bags not only exude the same degree of finesse as its leather counterparts, but they also serve as a symbol of reinvention and values, just like the modern bride, says Namrata.

Collaboration Ahikoza X Arpita Mehta
Aficionados of exotic, locally-produced leather bags must already be familiar with Ahizoka. The brand's top-shelf bags and clutches, with its signature symmetrical designs, are indeed to die for.
The beauty of leather is how it can be easily reproduced into a myriad of fashionable products. Among the most noteworthy latest leather designs is a collaborative effort between Ahikoza and noted Indian designer Arpita Mehta for a traditional-meets-exotic collection.
This collaboration aims to combine my spirit with Arpita Mehta's by bringing the essential elements of our respective brands. We came up with two signature models, The Azeline Potli and The Nammos Foldover Clutch, which feature chic mixtures of colors,' said Namrata Dudaney.
A pocket-like bag designed in ethnic Indian style and typically paired with a traditional ensemble of accessories, Potli has been modernized and rebranded as "The Azeline" for this collection. Overlaid with exclusively made coral skin, the bag and its strip are available in a host of bright, exuberant colors.
Meanwhile, The Nammos Foldover clutch features compartments accentuated with a stylish gauntlet. It can also be used in three different ways and carry all your essentials in one go.
I was inspired by all these unique cultural values and personal styles. It was an honor for me to design this collection alongside Arpita Mehta. In our designs, we prioritize comfort and flexibility for our customers, added Namrata Dudaney.
Get your hands on the Ahikoza X Arpita Mehta collection via www.ahikoza.com and a select number of stores in Jakarta and Bali.
Diva Dhavan x Gigi and Madison Minaudiere
Indonesia Tatler Interview
1. How long does it take to create each bag?
Each bag is handcrafted to the millimeter. Takes artisan and specialist attention. Each minaudière takes about 4 to 5 weeks to complete.
2. What's your most favorite Ahikoza bag? And what kind of looks fit for the bag?
My favorite Ahikoza bag has to be the Madison Minaudière. It's my signature design. It's crafted so beautifully, and fits all occasions - day to night! It's a red carpet regular, and still my most coveted design.
3. Would you mind to share your tips on how to take care leather goods, particularly bag?
Absolutely. Allow the bag to fully dry in a cool, dim setting (avoid sunlight or harsh lighting conditions). When cleaning, do not attempt speed drying with heat applicators (blow-dryers etc.) because it will dry out the skin, causing the scales to uplift quicker. Store properly in a dustbag and stuffing to ensure the shape preserves as well, and also to avoid dust particles and stains.
4. Ahikoza has adorned many Hollywood and Bollywood red carpets. How does it feel for you?
It's very humbling. You never take these moments for granted. There is no ordinary moment. Celebrities have access to every leading brand. To have Ahikoza amongst that pool is amazing. I have had the honor to work with some leading industry stylists and names. I value my time with each one of them. On or off the red carpet, I love seeing women carry my creations. It comes down to one key ingredient - a quality product with a strong brand DNA. Ahikoza stands tall on that.
5. For the ladies who co-designed, your muses - how does it feel to be an "Ahikoza girl"? What did you want to bring to life when co-designing your namesake bag?
Will let the muses themselves take the mike on this one. Carol Kumala To me, it feels empowering to be part of the Ahikoza army. When I co-designed the Carolina bucket bag, Namrata and I wanted to express a casual, convenient and chic look which steered away from her initial formal bags. We wanted to create a bag that would carry all of your essentials with the toss-it-in, ease of a tote but in a more tidy, chic style. Incorporating comfort and trend into the bucket bag were our main components. Rachel Nathani To be an ahikoza girl is to be bold, to be strong and to be independent. The ahikoza girl, to me, says the #futureisfemale and we are here to take charge. With the Rachel clutch, Namrata and I wanted to bring to life the ease of transitioning between work and pleasure. It brings to life our vision of creating independence in every piece. Juliana Kumala It feels great to be an Ahikoza girl! When I co-designed the Juliana Minaudière with Namrata, I wanted something luxurious but still relaxed. I especially love the cobra trim detail. It is still my go to clutch.
6. What are your tips for those (younger generation) who want to follow your footsteps to success? Could you share your secret sauce?
I have a long way to go. This is just the beginning honestly. I can share a few lessons and tips I've learnt thus far in my journey though. It's important to really do your research and spend time on what your brand DNA is. What sets your product apart? What are you trying to communicate? Really get clear on this before launching, even if it takes a little longer. Most importantly, stay humble. Don't get an ego and get caught up in the game. Fashion is an extremely fast paced industry. To ensure you have a strong foothold, its important to stay grounded and soft. Be professional and gracious. Focus on a quality product and the fundamental values of the brand. With hard work and dedication, the rest will organically take place.

A chat with Namrata Dudaney: Getting creative with Exotic Skins
Source: Her World
1. Hi Namrata! Can you tell us a little bit about your background in fashion.
I did my Undergraduation in Media and Communications, then enrolled in fashion school, where I studied Fashion Business. Design, was of course a component. That, along with my professional experience across retail and PR industries (Hugo Boss, Marie Claire Magazine, People) provided me the understanding of fashion on a grass roots level. Enabling me to start my own label - Ahikoza.
2. What was your inspiration behind starting Ahikoza?
I started collecting handbags since the age of 15! It's my passion. Over the years, I started developing a real appreciation and eye for craftsmanship and fine leathers. After fashion school, I decided to follow my gut and delve into fashion. I always wanted to share my creations and knew I had a footing/something unique to offer the marketplace. I'm very grateful.
3. Why and how has geometry/architecture played a role in all your designs?
I have a real appreciation and passion for geometry. There is something so strong about the symmetry and composition of it all. I love contemporary artists like Donald Judd and Lucio Fontana as well. It's the triangular accents and cut outs that I bring into my bags. That's what makes it uniquely ahikoza.
4. How long does it take to handcraft each bag?
Each bag is hand crafted to the millimeter! Exotic skins are a bit of a difficult material to work with as well. Done to precision, each piece takes about 3-4 weeks for completion.
5. Tell us about working with exotic skins, and the ethical considerations that come with it.
Working with exotic skins is definitely different, then working with traditional leathers. That, and also due to the ethical considerations it comes with. Very cognizant of the fact. However I do believe it's a matter of perspective. Ahikoza provides job opportunities, takes care of our artisans and most importantly as a company we make sure to learn and minimize all forms of waste consumption. We source skins in the most ethical manner we can.
6. What's your favorite Ahikoza product? What look goes with that bag perfectly?
My favorite Ahikoza product/bag is the Madison Minaudière! It goes with everything. Day to night, which is why I think it's a red carpet favorite.
7. Ahikoza is known for its customizations. What has been the most unique/your favorite to date?
All customizations are so special! Also, one of my favorite aspects of the business. My favorite however would have to be a bridal Sierra bag we did in semi precious stones to match the bride's outfit. Fact that she trusted me with her bridal piece, was an honor.
8. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to take care of exotic skins?
Exotic skin bags make for some of the most beautiful but fragile bags. However there are certainly ways to extend their longevity.
3 most important ones being
Store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight or harsh lighting.
Stuff that bag to avoid creasing and scales from lifting up.
In an event of stains, use a damp cloth and move in the direction of the scales, without putting too much pressure.
9. What advice do you have for people and young designers who want to follow your footsteps?
4 rules of thumb.
Do your homework/research. Know the market
Get your hands dirty with experience
Know, that there are no shortcuts
Be humble. Let your work do the talking.
10. Your bags are coveted on the red carpet in Hollywood and Bollywood. How is it like working with the industry and respective stylists?
Yes, it's very cool and humbling. I never take it for granted. Definitely a tough industry to break into! However if you have a strong product, I believe that's the main component. I've been very fortunate to have stylists and industry names support me in the industry. To name 3 in particular - Barbara Fialho, Lindsey Dupuis and the Kapoors. They've been my good luck charms. Be humble, be professional and most important of all patient. It takes time. Thank You.

Top Trends: Top style trends in Bali
In Bali, it is all about stylistic minimalism and simplicity. The key to keeping your look minimal is choosing to wear simple silhouettes with the right accessories that transcend from day to night. All you really need is one simple piece. Less really is more. Play with color and texture.
Street Style: Best street style looks
Stylish but relaxed and easy. Linen dresses, distressed shorts, straw hats, and bags to take from day to night. Street style is all about comfort chic. My favorite accessory being sunglasses (aviators are still my favorite), and the Carolina bucket bag from my own label!
The right combination elevates an outfit perfectly.
Style Muse: In your opinion which celebrities epitomize Bali chic? And why?
Rocky Barnes, the fashion blogger epitomizes Bali chic for sure! She wears relaxed ensembles with sexy cuts and bright pops, perfectly. More recently, Kareena Kapoor's Maldives looks definitely epitomized island chic, as well. Straw bags, easy kaftans and bright colors definitely certified her as Island Savvy and Bali ready!
Highlights: for shopping, style watching (all fashion related) etc.
Bali, The Island of the Gods offers a heartwarming array and experience of history, culture, and traditions through architecture, people and style! The creative energy is palpabale. From young gen fashionistas to veteran/icons. Bali is a meeting ground of Island warmth and fashion enthusiasts. A simple sarong, an iconic Balinese traditional wrap around is so beautifully styled by tourists and locals alike. This is jut one example among many chic and individual ways people express themselves in conjunction to Islands warm soul.
Bali High: Top style brands from Bali (can mention ahikoza here too)
Bali has some great brands!
To name a few
Mister Zimmi, Magali Pascal, Lulu Yasmine and
Ahikoza. All luxury yet accessible brands right in the heart of the island.
The chicest must-visits: restaurants, bars, clubs, neighborhoods etc
Bali is an island that is always up beat and pumping.
Living here, I always love exploring new joints! So many parts of the island that are yet to be explored. Current favorites and must go to's I would have to say are
-The Alila Seminyak, for great day and night beachfront dining.
-The Savage Kitchen, Canggu is a chill spot with yummy comfort food.
-Karma Kandara Beach Club in Uluwatu for great daytime beach club experience, amidst clearest waters on the Island.
-Newly Opened Bali Praia for an elevated lounge experience!
Last but not least-of course Ubud. That area has amazing hidden, and hole in the wall gems. Bisma 8 Hotel, being my current favorite.

There have been lots of challenges. I think this stands true in any industry, not just fashion. Entrepreneurship is not what it looks like. You never stop learning .You have to know your Business from a grass roots level. Do your homework. Most important lessons for me have been

July 2018
1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and your fashion background
I'm Indian, born and raised in Indonesia. I did my Under Graduation in Communications in Melbourne, Australia. After graduating I enrolled in Fashion School where I majored in Fashion Business. Design was as of course a core segment. My diploma in Fashion Business cemented my understanding of design and core fundamentals of the industry.
2. How has moving to Bali influenced your craft? What is next for the brand?
Moving to Bali has been a gift on both a personal and creative level. It's my seaside playground. I share its love of the ocean, as well as the freedom and relaxed spirit the Island represents. Spending time here has made me realize that there are still many aspects of the brand that has yet to be explored. I plan on exploring the vast artistic opportunity India provides, and how I can integrate that in the brand. Being Indian, this is very close to my heart and something I look forward to developing.
3.Where do your influences for Bridal in particular come from?
True to my Cancerian nature, I try and keep things fluid. Whatever I'm into at the time is usually what brings my creations to life. For bridal however, it's of course about my client's needs. I work very closely with my brides and make sure each piece delivers not just a product but also an experience.
4.Can you share an example in particular?
I love working with all my brides. Each bridal piece is so special. A particular example: Working with a Pakistani blogger, Marjhan Kausar (as pictured)/IG :marjhankausar) who gave me the honor to do her bridal piece. I designed and curated a one off, down to her favorite lining color in pink, which went perfectly with her Sana Safinaz ensemble.
5. How was your experience Co Designing with Victoria's Secret model Barbara Fialho?
Working with Barbara Fialho was an extremely cool experience. There is no ordinary moment. This was definitely a highlight in my journey so far. We Co designed the Barbara clutch within 3 weeks over skype. Her support and compliance lead to a successful run, profits of which went back to my artisans.
We both shared a real passion for honoring the craftsman.
In a bullish industry, I'm extremely humbled and thankful for the opportunity.
6.How did this come along? Did the passion for accessories always exist? Or was it the fact that you maybe studied the field and tapped on to the market?
I think a culmination of everything, really! I never planned to be a designer. Its like they say life is what happens when your making other plans. I've always had a love and adoration for handbags, and continue to do so. I started collecting when I was 16. My first job in college (Hugo Boss, Retail) was so I could earn enough to buy a Chanel bag, which my dad had promised he would match the amount for. It's nostalgic reflecting back. That, along with a passion for the industry, and a window of opportunity/gap in the market I saw- lead to the birth of the label: ahikoza.
7.What makes your brand stand apart from the rest of the brands out there?
I have a respect and adoration for many designers, including those working with exotic skins. There is some really cool stuff out there. Ahikoza I think stands apart due to its geometric nature is design. My designs are influenced by architectural installations, and crafted down to the millimeter. I have a love for geometry and I think that is communicated very clearly across the designs. Its our signature. The geometrical elements are what set us aside.
8.Where do you turn to for inspiration? How do you come up with collections? How do you price your products?
The label is inspired by my global travels and cultural background, alongside adoration for handbags and exotic skins alike. The label's signature aesthetic is exotics merged with geometrics. My inspirations come from everywhere! My bags are named after my best friends, so a lot of the times its their personal style as well which gives life/fuels the design.
My prices range from PKR 55,00.00 to PKR 80,920.00.
I like to define it as discrete luxury consumption at valued prices for beautifully crafted products.
9.What does Ahikoza mean? How did you decide to name your brand that?
The name 'Ahikoza' comes from the Sanskrit words Ahi and Koza. It means the cast of snakeskin. With my roots tied to India, I wanted a name that uniquely captured the core of the brand. In a saturated luxury accessories market, I wanted to streamline my collection by exclusively focusing on exotic skins. Minimal treatment and hardware are used, keeping the primary focus on craftsmanship and exoticism of the skins themselves.
10.What is your brand vision? How do you see your brand in the next 10 years?
To create more designs with love and offer my clients cutting edge designs for their wardrobes! Of course to bring my label to Pakistan, as well. I currently retail in South East Asia, Cape Town, South Africa and online. Would like to expand to the US and let life and my brand fluidly take me to places, as it has thus far.
Embracing the whole process with creative energy and most importantly and abundance of gratitude.

Rachel Nathani, as a medium to express herself. "Fashion is able to give an impression of one's identity," said the founder of the label Ideas & Co. "I like to wear simple clothes, but I will add a unique accessory to represent my personality." The color black is touted as a color Rachel is able to represent his style. "Black is everything. Almost all my clothes are black!" He said with a small laugh. "My style is quite minimalist, but put-together." High-waisted pants became one of Rachel's flagship items to go to the office every day. "Especially the pants from Phillip Lim 3.1, their pants are amazing!" In the middle of her wedding preparations last year, she confessed to falling in love with Zuhair Murad. No wonder it seems that this name reappeared as a favorite designer. "Although it cannot be used everyday, every work is very unique. It's very me, in a sense that his details are very intricate. He is a figure I really admire," he recalled. For local designers, Rachel often dropped choices on Stella Rissa and Sapto Djojokartiko.
For Jackson Pollock's admirers, fashion and art can be combined to make things more personal. Hermès Herbag bag painted by artist Syagini became one of the proofs. "In addition, Rachel asked one of her friends, Namrata Dudaney, designer of Ahikoza's evening bag, to design a snake skin clutch bag for her marriage. "We combine snake skin materials with pearls that are also in my wedding dress. It became an art piece for her," he explained. For business shopping, Rachel often chooses to do it via online. "Currently I often spend from the Reformation. All the products are eco-friendly, the size is perfect, and I cannot find such a brand in Jakarta," explained the graduate of Parsons School of Design, New York. "For accessories I love Aidan & Ice. My clothes are very simple, but with Aidan & Ice accessories, I can stand out." So with the collection of her fashion objects up to now, what kind of fashion objects are on Rachel's wish list now? "I want Dior J'Adior's shoes in white. I saw them at Kravelist recently and I think it's perfect to go to the office," Rachel closed with a smile.
